@X082@X05.@X0801 @X03 BLACK POWDER
@X08Black powder is generally available in three grades@X05.@X08 As stated before@X05,@X08
the smaller the grade@X05,@X08 the faster the powder burns@X05.@X08 Burn rate is extremely
important in bombs@X05.@X08 Since an explosion is a rapid increase of gas volume in
a confined environment@X05,@X08 to make an explosion@X05,@X08 a quick@X05-@X08burning powder is
desirable@X05.@X08 The three common grades of black powder are listed below@X05,@X08 along
with the usual bore width @X05(@X08calibre@X05)@X08 of what they are used in@X05.@X08 Generally@X05,@X08
the fastest burning powder@X05,@X08 the FFF grade is desirable@X05.@X08 However@X05,@X08 the other
grades and uses are listed below@X05:@X08

F @X05.@X0850 or greater model cannon@X05;@X08 some rifles
FF @X05.@X0836 @X05-@X08 @X05.@X0850 large pistols@X05;@X08 small rifles
FFF @X05.@X0836 or smaller pistols@X05;@X08 derringers
The FFF grade is the fastest burning@X05,@X08 because the smaller grade has
more surface area or burning surface exposed to the flame front@X05.@X08 The larger
grades also have uses which will be discussed later@X05.@X08 The price range of
black powder@X05,@X08 per pound@X05,@X08 is about $8@X05.@X0850 @X05-@X08 $9@X05.@X0800@X05.@X08 The price is not affected
by the grade@X05,@X08 and so one saves oneself time and work if one buys the finer
grade of powder@X05.@X08 The major problems with black powder are that it can be
ignited accidentally by static electricity@X05,@X08 and that it has a tendency to
absorb moisture from the air@X05.@X08 To safely crush it@X05,@X08 a bomber would use a plastic
spoon and a wooden salad bowl@X05.@X08 Taking a small pile at a time@X05,@X08 he or she would
apply pressure to the powder through the spoon and rub it in a series of
strokes or circles@X05,@X08 but not too hard@X05.@X08 It is fine enough to use when it is
about as fine as flour@X05.@X08 The fineness@X05,@X08 however@X05,@X08 is dependant on what type of
device one wishes to make@X05;@X08 obviously@X05,@X08 it would be impracticle to crush enough
powder to fill a 1 foot by 4 inch radius pipe@X05.@X08 Anyone can purchase black
powder since anyone can own black powder firearms in America@X05.@X08
